(CPS) A vida das células está diretamente associada ao transporte de substâncias.
Na respiração humana, por exemplo, o gás oxigênio do ar inspirado é transportado até os alvéolos pulmonares, de onde passa para o interior de capilares sanguíneos.
Dentro dos capilares sanguíneos alveolares, o gás oxigênio penetra nos glóbulos vermelhos (hemácias) e se combina com a molécula de uma proteína denominada hemoglobina, formando a oxiemoglobina, que é um composto químico instável.
Dessa forma, o gás oxigênio é transportado pelo sangue até os capilares sanguíneos dos tecidos do corpo humano.
Nos capilares dos tecidos, o gás oxigênio se separa da hemoglobina e difunde-se para o interior das células, onde é utilizado na respiração celular.
Assim, finalmente dentro das células, o gás oxigênio reage com substâncias orgânicas, tais como carboidratos e lipídios, a fim de liberar a energia que será utilizada na manutenção dos processos vitais.
