Texto base: Unusual laws around the world
A) No high heels in Greece
Historic sites, such as the Acropolis, have banned the wearing of high heels for fear of causing damage to ancient monuments.
B) Canada's radio stations must be patriotic
In Canada, the law dictates that 35 per cent of all music played on radio stations must be by Canadian artists. Great news for Justin Bieber and Celine Dion – but not necessarily the rest of us.
C) No durians in public places
In Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, the durian fruit is banned from buses, subways, hotels and airports. Once you've smelled one, you'll understand why.
D) Don't chew gum in Singapore
Some people regard chewing gum as ill-mannered, but in Singapore it's a criminal offence to chew gum unless it's medicinal.
E) No overeating in Japan
In Japan it is technically forbidden to be obese: lawmakers set a maximum waistline of 80cm for men aged 40 and over. If their paunches breach this limit, men will be given dieting guidance.
